Muizenberg Community Dinner

In addition to our transitional house, we run the Muizenberg Community Dinner in

Muizenberg that provides a space for 80 - 100 people from the community to sit together

weekly and eat a warm and nutritious meal together.

The purpose of the weekly community dinner is to create a space where anyone in the

community can come together to enjoy a hot meal and friendship in a safe and welcoming

space. We believe that building relationships across racial, culture and socio-economic

lines is critical and it is our hope that the community dinner in Muizenberg would help us, as

a broader community, to do this. It creates an opportunity for mutual transformation,

allows us to demystify some of what we believe about the ‘other’ and to find ways of

working and living well together as a community.

For New Hope specifically, it also creates an opportunity for us to connect with individuals

who desire to find a path out of homelessness.

Everyone is welcome, we eat a meal together, we pursue mutual transformation, we become

neighbours and friends by hearing each other’s stories and we work at equalising power.
